Fresh Snow....More On The Way!
USE IT OR LUGE IT RECYCLABLE SLED RACE
Rock Island Noon Kiwanis First Annual "Use it or Luge it!" Recyclable Sled Race.
Sponsored by the Rock Island Noon Kiwanis and The Quad City International Airport.
When: Monday February 15, 2010
Time: 8:00am-10am
Where: Snowstar Winter Sport Park
Join the fun when Rock Island Noon Kiwanis and the Quad City International Airport team up for our first ever Recyclable Sled Race at Snowstar Winter Sports Park. People of all ages will compete for best design and the fastest cardboard sled. The coveted "Golden Shovel" will be awarded and there will be a raffle (open to those 18 and older) for a $500 travel voucher from the QC International Airport. This is a charitable event to benefit the youth of our community.
Registration is $10 for each each sled and team, registration forms are available at Snowstar. Each participant must sign a registration and waiver form.

Design Guidelines:
- Only regular cardboard, duct tape, and paint can be used to construct the cardboard sleds.
Sled cannot be wrapped in plastic or shrink wrapped.
- No wood, glue industrial adhesives, staples, rope or wire will be permitted on a sled.
- Keep designs family friendly, no profanity allowed.
- Duct Tape or wax can be used on the bottom of the sled.
Race Rules:
- Participants are strongly encouraged to wear helmets. Bike helmets are OK. Costumes are welcome.
- Push starts only. No Running starts.
- Maximum of 3 participants per sled.
- All sled parts and participants must cross the finish line.
Race Categories:
- Ages 13 and under.
- Ages 14 and older.
Procedures:
- Two or more sleds race in each heat. The winner of each heat goes back to the starting line for elimination heats after all sleds in the category have run their first heat.
- Judging for best designed and best decorated will occur before the race.
- Awards will be given to the champion and runner-up for each category and will be presented at the conclusion of the races.
KING OF THE HILL 2010
Starting Saturday January 16th, 2010 at 2pm we will be having the first preliminary King of the Hill rail jam and aerial competition. This year we have some awesome prizes from Rossignol, Zumiez, Active Endeavors, Bushwackers and Ynot Ink. Polish up your skills and get ready to show of your best moves. Registration fee for the competition is just $5, you must register to compete.
Other preliminary contests will be held on Saturday January 30th and February 13th at 2pm. The top three finishers in each age group from the preliminaries will be competing in the final on Sunday February 28th, 2010.
This year we have changed the age groups in order to try to make things a little more fair between competitors. This years age groups are as follows:
12 and under combined skiers and snow boarders.
13-16 combined skiers and snow boarders.
17 and older skiiers
17 and older snowboaders.
Past kings are not eligible to win this year, but they will be helping us with judging so you better practice up to impress the kings! Get ready this year promises to be bigger and better than ever!!
